Beverly Lewis and Gary Davis being interviewed by Mark S. Allen at the Foresthill Bridge
Filming in Placer County was the focus of three segments on Ch. 10’s Sacramento news program “Morning Blend”- including a stop at California’s highest bridge, the Foresthill Bridge - to discuss the iconic movie “XXX” car stunt shot there. Media Personality and reporter Mark S. Allen spoke with Beverly Lewis, Director of the Placer-Lake Tahoe Film Office, and Gary Davis, veteran director and celebrated stunt coordinator, about why Placer County has been so popular for filming. One big reason - the elevation changes from 90’ to over 9000’ within a 90 minute drive across the county, providing a lot of location options in close proximity. Clips from some of the scores of productions filmed in the county are featured.
Mark S. Allen is with Beverly, the Placer County Film Commissioner, to talk about all the classic films shot in Placer County.
Mark S. Allen was in Placer County highlighting some of the films shot in their backyard, including the Vin Diesel action film, “XXX”.
“XXX”. "Phenomenon". These are just a couple of the films shot in Placer County.

Placer County Oscar Win - AB 1839
To all - Placer County can crow about an Oscar winner last night! “Her” won for Best Original Screenplay. The production shot their snow scenes here in April 2012 and a local TV station wanted cover that connection especially when I told them that the film was the recipient of the state tax credit program and there is pending legislation about strengthening the program.
Spike Jonze, who also directed (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) won for his script about a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) who develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need (voice of Scarlett Johansson).
Locations near Donner Summit (Norden and Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, Soda Springs, and a group of cabins near I-80 and Big Ben Rd exit) are the only part of the film that breaks free of the urban/internally focused storyline. I had a chance to stop by while they were on location and thank Jonze personally in between scenes with Joaquin Phoenix, chatted about the area, and his films, and presented him with a selection of organic local produce and award winning Placer Co wine.
Critically, "Her" was one of the few films to qualify for the state's modest film and TV tax credit program in 2012 and the main reason why they eventually shot here. With pending legislation to strengthen the program (and the fact that Placer County has hosted four productions have qualified for the tax credit in its first five years), that was enough to hook Channel 10 into sending their reporter George Warren here today to do a brief interview with me. It will air on either the 5 PM or 6 PM broadcast on CH 10 KXTV, the ABC affiliate. I have asked Greg Currier to record it if possible.
